It shows a raised and frosted image of the battle-hardened Gimli, axe in hand, which contrasts beautifully against the mirror finish background.
The legal tender status of the coin is confirmed by the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse side.
